From distribution to comprehensive contract logistics
Our collaboration with Kids Fashion Group GmbH (formerly Josef Kanz GmbH) began with relatively small-scale projects – the production and distribution of the Kanz brand across Central and Eastern Europe. The dynamic growth of the children’s clothing market and the expansion of our Partner’s brand portfolio quickly scaled up our operations.
At the same time, Poland began to consolidate its position as a key European logistics hub, linking East and West. It was therefore a natural step to extend the partnership to include contract logistics and fulfilment, covering comprehensive supply chain management.
Growing volumes and the need for fast and flexible distribution meant that the Partner’s existing logistics infrastructure was no longer sufficient. A change was necessary – and in a very short time.
Rapid implementation of logistics operations
The decision to launch a logistics centre in Poland was made swiftly – as is often the case in business – during face-to-face discussions.
Implementation time: approximately 1 month.
During this time, we completed:
- fitting out of the warehouse space
- implementation of IT infrastructure and systems integration
- configuration of warehouse and distribution processes
- preparation of cooperation with carriers
- intensive training of the operational team
At the same time, we acquired the Partner’s know-how, including:
- management of dedicated IT systems
- operational and logistics procedures
- the specific nature of B2B and retail clients
- development of proprietary data exchange solutions between hubs
The Polish location became the first stage in the development of an international logistics network, which ultimately comprised five hubs across Europe and Asia.
Scaling operations and expanding fulfilment
Initially, the plan was to handle a single brand. However, it soon became clear that the quality of our operations and the standard of our service allowed for much more.
In 2015:
- full logistics support for the Kanz brand was transferred to Poland
- we took over not only warehouse operations, but also:
- delivery planning
- transport coordination
- collaboration with sales and production departments
In the very first year, we handled nearly 1,000,000 items, fulfilling:
- B2B orders (with individual customer requirements)
- distribution to retail chains
- global exports (including customs clearance and documentation)
Development of the distribution centre in Łódź
The success of the first phase led to further expansion. Additional brands were brought to Poland:
- Pampolina
- Königsmühle
- Lief
- Whoopi
As a result:
- volume rose to over 1.6 million units per year
- the logistics centre in Łódź became a key distribution hub
From our warehouse, we fulfilled orders for the largest e-commerce and retail players, such as:
- Amazon
- Zalando
- MyToys
- Karstadt
- Kaufhof
At the same time, we served:
- wholesale customers
- export customers
- our own sales channels
The entire operation was carried out by a team of around 40 people, maintaining high efficiency and punctuality.
Integration of global logistics
The next step was the launch of operations for the Tom Tailor brand (2018), which significantly expanded the scale of our operations.
Thanks to a flexible logistics model:
- part of the operations was based in Poland
- part at a hub in Turkey
Result:
- over 2,200,000 items handled annually
- up to 45 pallets per day during peak season
- global shipping (USA, Canada, UAE)
The project’s impact on the development of the logistics network
The experience gained in Poland was utilised in the construction of the Partner’s subsequent logistics centres in:
- Italy
- Turkey
- Slovakia
The operational model and process solutions implemented by Hurtimex have formed the basis for the further internationalisation of Kids Fashion Group’s logistics.
Summary of the collaboration
The project carried out for Kids Fashion Group GmbH is an example of how contract logistics, distribution and fulfilment can effectively support the growth of an international business.
By combining:
- flexible warehouse infrastructure
- advanced logistics processes
- the team’s experience
- and a personalised approach to the client
We have succeeded in creating a scalable operational model that grows alongside our Partner’s business.
Conclusion
Today, our partnership with Kids Fashion Group GmbH stands as one of the key examples of the successful implementation of contract logistics within an end-to-end model. It demonstrates that a well-designed fulfilment and distribution process not only supports operations but also becomes a solid foundation for the growth of the entire organisation.
At Hurtimex, we believe that logistics is more than just warehousing and transport – it is a strategic tool for business development. That is why we support our Partners at every stage: from goods receipt, through warehousing, to comprehensive order fulfilment and international distribution.
